Volunteer with Us – Inspire Young Minds and Create Lasting Memories!

Are you passionate about history, education, or working with children and families? Do you enjoy sharing knowledge and bringing learning to life in fun and interactive ways? Come and join us at Denny Abbey and The Farmland Museum as a Learning & Education Volunteer!

We’re on the lookout for friendly, enthusiastic volunteers to support our Education Officer in delivering exciting school visits and family activities during school holidays and on special event days. Whether you’re an experienced educator or simply love working with people, this is a fantastic opportunity to get involved, give back, and grow your skills.

What You’ll Be Doing:

You’ll help make visits to the museum engaging and memorable for everyone — from schoolchildren on a history trip to families enjoying a creative day out.

Depending on your interests, you might:
– Welcome school groups, youth clubs, and adult learners with a warm smile
– Lead hands-on craft or object-handling sessions with children
– Bring the fascinating stories of The Farmland Museum and Denny Abbey to life
– Assist with setting up and running family craft activities during school holidays
– Help care for learning materials and resources
– Support new ideas for school and family programmes.

Whether you can commit to helping regularly or just occasionally, we’d love to hear from you!

When and Where?

Flexible hours between March and November
Most school visits take place on Mondays and Tuesdays, but group visits and holiday events can happen on any day

Why Volunteer With Us?

You’ll get the chance to:
– Be part of a welcoming and supportive team
– Meet people from all walks of life
– Learn new skills — or share the ones you already have!
– Build confidence and boost your CV
– Enjoy being in a unique, hands-on learning environment

We provide full training and support, including:
– Mentoring and shadowing experienced team members
– Access to activity plans, learning materials, and resources
– DBS checks and safeguarding training (for roles involving children)

What We’re Looking For:

You don’t need to be an expert — just enthusiastic, reliable, and open to learning! Ideally, you:
– Enjoy working with children, families, or diverse groups
– Are friendly, confident, and good at communicating
– Are happy to work as part of a team or independently once trained
– Can follow activity plans and timings
– Are keen to help make learning fun and accessible for all

Experience in education or working with children is helpful but not essential!
