FAQs

Here are some frequently asked questions that might help as you plan your visit to our museum.

If you can’t find what you’re looking for, don’t hesitate to get in touch — we’re always happy to help!

No. We’re a museum of farming implements and rural history, not a working farm, so we don’t have any resident animals. However, there’s still plenty of nature to enjoy! In the summer, you might spot cows grazing in the surrounding fields, and there’s an array of birds and other wildlife to look out for as you explore the museum’s outdoor spaces.

Our Docky Box Café is located inside the museum grounds, so a museum ticket is required to visit the café. The good news? Our tickets are annual passes – buy once, and you can return as many times as you like for free for the next 12 months. So whether you’re popping back for a coffee, a slice of cake, or another look around the museum, your ticket gives you unlimited access for a whole year. We look forward to welcoming you – again and again!

We don’t have a pre-booking system, but tickets are always available on the door – even on event days. Just come along, and you can purchase your ticket when you arrive. We look forward to welcoming you!

We’re a seasonal museum, open every year from late-March to the end of the autumn half term holiday.

During that time, we’re open Thursday to Sunday and Bank Holiday Mondays from 10am to 4pm.

The site is completely closed to the public every Monday to Wednesday.

Yes. Denny Abbey, Walnut Tree Cottage and the Nuns’ Refectory are managed by the Farmland Museum on behalf of English Heritage. English Heritage Members are entitled to free admission to the whole site (including the Farmland Museum) on production of a valid English Heritage Membership Card.

Corporate English Heritage Membership schemes usually don’t include free access to Denny Abbey and The Farmland Museum. Please check your organisation’s terms and conditions before visiting.

On special event days, English Heritage Members pay a reduced admission fee of £5 adult, £3 child. In 2025, the special event days are Sunday 25th and Monday 26th May.

The café and shop are run by the Farmland Museum Trust and not by English Heritage, so Members’ discount is not available.

It is not possible to become an English Heritage member at this site.

Yes, you can park opposite the entrance to our museum in a grass car park.

Our main car park is in a field and the ground is not flat. Those visitors who require disabled parking, please call the site in advance or speak to the staff member in the shop upon arrival and we can direct you to a suitable space to park. Disabled visitors can be dropped off outside the main entrance.

As a small, independent museum, we do not have the facilities to record every ticket purchase. If you are unable to produce your pass on arrival, we will have to ask you to pay for admission.

We advise taking a photograph of your annual pass and if you can show us that, along with matching ID, we may be able to issue a new pass with the same expiry date.

Yes, well-behaved dogs are very welcome to visit Denny Abbey and the Farmland Museum. We have plenty of space to roam.

We simply ask that they are kept on a short lead and leave nothing behind but paw prints!

The only spaces we ask that dogs aren’t taken into are upstairs in Denny Abbey or Walnut Tree Cottage.

Talks and tours of our fascinating site can be arranged for pre-booked groups. Information about booking tours and group visits is on our Visiting Us pages.

We are very keen to welcome everyone to Denny Abbey and The Farmland Museum and our accessibility options are outlined on our Visiting Us pages. Contact us directly if you have more questions.

Yes, we are always on looking for new volunteers to join our wonderful team. You can find lots of information on the roles available and how to apply on our volunteer pages.
