Thank you to MDSE and GTC Utilities for helping us make our museum more accessible

Posted: 2nd Jul 2025

We are delighted to share a significant improvement at our museum that’s already making a real difference to our visitors.

Thanks to generous funding from Museum Development South East (MDSE), we were able to purchase high-quality gravel grids to create fully accessible pathways across key sections of our museum grounds. This project was directly inspired by visitor feedback, with many people telling us that uneven and difficult-to-navigate paths were preventing them from enjoying all that the museum has to offer. We listened and, thanks to this vital support, we’ve been able to take action.

The new gravel grids have created smooth, stable and safer paths, making it much easier for wheelchair users, mobility scooter users, parents with pushchairs, and others to move comfortably around the site.

We are also incredibly grateful to GTC, whose dedicated team of volunteers gave their time and effort over the course of a full week to install the pathways. Their hard work and professionalism helped bring the project to life, and their contribution has truly been invaluable.

This collaboration has not only improved access, it has helped us make the museum a more inclusive and welcoming place for all. Visitors have already shared positive feedback about how much easier it is to get around and we’re delighted to be able to offer a more enjoyable experience to a wider range of people.

On behalf of our staff, volunteers, and every visitor who benefits from these improvements: thank you to MDSE and GTC. Your support has helped make our museum a more open, accessible and inviting place for everyone.
